42 Technology will be demonstrating a new Edge AI breakthrough at this year’s Cambridge Wireless International Conference (CWIC 2026, Thursday 30 April) that allows engineers to control complex laboratory and industrial equipment using plain-English instructions.

The system integrates a large-language model (LLM) with an embedded Edge AI processor to drive a signal generator, and eliminates the need for users to have any specialist training or knowledge of the specific command syntax for the device.

The demonstrator has been designed to show the huge potential of today’s on-device language models and the benefit of natural-language interaction to control everything from consumer appliances to complex industrial systems. This shift will allow equipment to become far more intuitive and accessible, while reducing the level of operator training required.

The project is one of two Edge AI systems being demonstrated by 42T’s engineering team at this year’s conference, which focuses on ‘Networks of Intelligence: Where Connectivity and Innovation Converge’.

The second demonstrator showcases 42T’s breakthrough approach to condition monitoring using a specialist brain-inspired device from Innatera. It employs a ‘spiking neural processor’ which combines low latency with low power consumption.

Raw sensor data is converted into temporal spike patterns, reducing information flow and computational complexity. The demonstrator provides a visual representation of the processing steps involved, to showcase the myriad applications throughout industry.

“These two demos reflect the momentum behind 42 Technology’s expanding Edge AI capabilities, partnerships and client work. Our close collaboration with leading technology providers means we can explore the full landscape of Edge AI options before delivering the best solution to meet a client’s manufacturing and operational needs. It’s an approach that’s helping our clients to de-risk the adoption of Edge AI solutions and to move more quickly from concept to prototype and into production.”

Mike and several of 42T’s AI experts will be available throughout CWIC 2026 to discuss the technologies and share their insights into the next wave of AI-enabled product development and manufacturing innovation.
