Simon Jelley

Principal Consultant – Head of Innovation

Simon is Head of Innovation at 42T and a Chartered Mechanical Engineer with a Master’s in Engineering Science from the University of Oxford. Simon thrives on solving complex, cross-disciplinary challenges, leading innovation programmes that span thermofluidics, mechanism design, sensing systems, and systems-level thinking.

At 42T, Simon helps clients unlock bold new opportunities by applying structured innovation processes to highly constrained and open-ended problems alike. He is an experienced facilitator, working across industries to shape proposition spaces, develop breakthrough concepts, and de-risk early-stage ideas through rapid prototyping and systems abstraction.

His achievements include enabling market access in IP-constrained environments, radically improving the performance of thermal process systems, and creating inspection technologies capable of detecting microscopic defects at speed and scale.

Life outside work

Outside of work, he’s an enthusiastic maker, artist, and science communicator. He’s built a 1 million volt Wimshurst generator, rainbow chocolate, a 5m-tall firenado, and even a water-powered spark generator for STEM outreach.
